The Schlitz Audubon Nature Center is a great place to enjoy the outdoors, however it needs up keeping like most trails and nature reserves. If you enjoy spending time outside, gardening, and socializing consider volunteering for their habitat restoration projects. Your duties would be to take out invasive plants by hand, and plant new, native plants with other volunteers.
The Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee has a ton of different volunteering opportunities for varying skills levels, interests, and time frames. You can even contact them about sharing your skills and volunteering the way you want when you want for them.
The River Revitalization Foundation has weekly volunteering opportunities in their Fostering Our Riparian Biodiversity program. Volunteers remove invasive plants, plant native ones, do trail maintenance, seed collection, erosion control, and more. At this time they are not taking new volunteers due to their inability to hold volunteer orientations because of covid-19, but once things open back up more, volunteering should start again.
The Milwaukee Riverkeeper has an annual Spring River Cleanup where they work to clean up the Milwaukee River. The organization does a lot of other things to help the rivers in Milwaukee and the areas around them. They focus on water conservation and water purity (contamination/pollution).
The Bay View Bash is an annual event that gathers people to process trash and compost/recycle what they can, significantly decreasing the amount that goes to the landfill. They sort items and send everything they can to their correct locations (recycling, compost, etc.) so that only what cannot be processed goes to the landfill.
Any of the foundations listed on this site would be incredibly happy to receive a donation from you to support their cause and help them achieve their impact. While involvement from the community if always key, donations are typically what keeps them going so your help in that regard would directly help the environment as well.
